well i've officially turned one year older.. again haha
so time for some reflection since it's going to be the end of another year anyway in one months time.
well i guessed alot has happened this year. mainly, it was the end of my uni life and the transition into the adult working life happened this year. final year in uni sure has been tough, fun, sad, happy but most importantly meaningful. i never wrote a tribute to the end of my 4 years of uni life so i'll just sum it up here. i just want to extend my gratitude to all those who've been part of my uni life making namely - hall 1 ppl, MSA ppl, table tennis ppl, STOMPAids project ppl, project groupmates, professors, mentors, lab assistants, and all those that i might've missed out from one of the groups mentioned but have been part of my uni life in one way or another. but most importantly i have to thank my parents and family members for all their support throughout all these years.
the reason u may see me writing all these thanking messages because i've learned that one of the important values in life is gratitude. gratitude can be just as simple as just saying a thank you but it truly means alot more when it reaches out from within. the word 'thank you' has been overused daily with no meaning at all but just as a gesture of normality. maybe u can start counting how many times u use this word in a day but then count how many of those that u really meant it. in times to come you will be more aware of it and from then u can put in more meaning to those words. gratitude is a feeling, not just a word.
anyway, life after uni and into the working world is very different.. basically the biggest difference is the freedom. but lets not talk about work.. well not for now as work is most of people's daily chore and it can be talk abt at just any normal times haha.
let's talk abit abt the trip to cambodia. well it's been a great and fun trip but most importantly it was also insightful and educational. it was a country filled with history but a big part of it is a very saddening and ruthless history. most of us are truly blessed and lucky to be living in a peaceful country with abundance of food and living easy lives. and there are ppl who are in even more worse condition than them in other parts of the world. but it is a good thing to see how they're emerging out from the stormy days especially with the help of others from all over the world. but one thing i do notice about the cambodian ppl is they're very humble ppl.. humbled by the ruthless dictatorship that they went through. to them, we are actually their dreams.. most of them could only dream of being like us, to have a life like ours. to even go through proper education is something already so difficult. well, hopefully they'll be seeing a brighter future with the current progress.
but anyway, the ang kor wat and many other temples around there is really something spectacular. and honestly from my point of view, it's not something that can last long so i'll recommend it to ppl to see it while they still can. the reason why i'm saying this is because the structures are very very very old and it could crumble down at anytime. any slightest natural disaster can tear this few historical monuments apart and there'll be nothing left to see. actually they're very similar to the piramids with the stacking up of big chunks of stones to make the structure. so i guess the next time u go travelling, this shld be on the top of ur destination list. and it's definitely cheap plus the money you're spending are goin to a good cause of helping to develop this country and the people there.
i guess this post doesn't really fit the title anymore haha but i can't find anything better to say abt being 24. but anyway, are birthdays suppose to be happy or sad? well of cos it's always been treated as a happy occasion and it definitely should be since it's celebrating that u are still alive haha. but like someone said before, b'day means u're getting older and nearer to the grave haha. but i guess all these doesn't really matter cos it's not abt how long u live, but how meaningful it was while it lasted.
i once asked my spiritual teacher, why is it that we will have long life if we do more good deeds when longer life means having more suffering? in terms of suffering i meant by having to endure longer old age sickness and also to see more people around you leaving before u do. there's a saying in chinese that says it is way more heartening for parents to see their children leave than for the children to see their parents leave. (by leave i mean pass away not run away).
well the answer was actually very simple. it's true tat longer life would mean more suffering but wat was not seen is there's opportunity to do more good deeds with a longer life.
one more thing to add before i end this post. lately i've just completed watching one TVB drama series and it's definitely the best i've seen so far. it's a very meaningful story and i have to admit that almost every episode managed to put me in tears. it's not like those korean or taiwan love stories between guy and gal stuff. it's all abt family and values of life tat many has forgotten these days. the title of the show is Moonlight Resonance. check it out and you won't regret it. u may even turn out as a better person after watching it. i have the direct download source if anyone wants but i won't post it up here. dunno if got any piracy issues haha so can msn me if interested.
tat's all for now. Just want to end it with a BIG 'Thank You' for all the b'day wishes :)
